How much?

Clare-based septet, Ensemble Ériu, released their self-titled debut album to critical acclaim in late 2013 – with unanimous praise given to their unique amalgamation of traditional Irish music and more contemporary strains of jazz, neoclassical and ambient music genres. This innovative approach is put to the test in their latest project, The Stargazer Suite, an hour-long body of work made up of entirely original compositions by Ensemble Ériu’s founding members, Neil O’Loghlen and Jack Talty, in response to a selection of works by widely-celebrated Irish artist Jack B. Yeats. The ensemble’s nationwide tour begins in Galway on Tuesday, and will culminate with a performance in Dublin’s own Freemason’s Hall this Saturday. The band will give audiences insight into additional material both old and new – the latter applying to works that will feature in their anticipated second album, set to be released next year. With a couple of Dublin concert appearances already under their belt, the evening is primed to be a sui generis celebration of the arts in showing how the composers’ musical approaches were influenced by each selected painting. / Amelia O’Mahony-Brady
