Whore Works (Absolut Gay Theatre Fest)
There may be an idea that
either of the Gay
Theatre Festivals are only suited to the LGBT community, because, you know, other people wouldn't _get_ it. Whore Works advertises itself as 'containing nudity and strong language', with two actors portraying the relationship between a black male hooker and his various clients – possibly not everyone's taste. However, five minutes in I stopped seeing 'gay men' and started observing extraordinary characters in a memorable, sometimes shocking, always funny play that I've been thinking and talking about since. Extremely well acted with a superb script and balance between dance, sex and dialogue and punctuated with a healthy dose of humour, certain scenes – the cigarette one in particular - are worth it alone. If this is the quality of either Festival, I'll be back for more.
