Digital Socket Awards

Bad news for Westlife and U2: The Meteor Awards have been shelved this year, so there will likely to be a couple fewer additions to their mantlepieces. Thankfully though, a more-than-worthy substitute has materialised in the guise of The Digital Sockets. The brainchild of four Irish music bloggers, the event will see Irish musicians competing across eleven categories, as well as awards for best music photography, independent label and radio show. Rather than serving as a photo op for Z-Listers, The Digital Sockets are all about the music (man), with nominees determined by a public vote and winners decided by a panel of music bloggers. Performances on the night come courtesy of Groom, Meljoann and a top-secret special guest, while host Gareth Stack will (hopefully) inject some Ricky Gervais into proceedings.
